What is Sculptra®

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid implant in the form of a sterile non-pyrogenic suspension, which is reconstituted from a sterile dry powder by the addition of sterile water for injection (Ph.Eur.). This suspension contains microparticles of poly-L-lactic acid, the crystalline form of polylactic acid,. Poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic polymer from the alpha hydroxy acid family. Sculptra is suitable for increasing the volume of depressed areas, particularly to correct skin depressions, such as skin creases, wrinkles, folds, scars, and for skin aging. Sculptra is also suitable for large volume corrections of the signs of facial fat loss (lipoatrophy).

What are the benefits of this product?

Sculptra gives visible, yet subtle results by filling wrinkles and restoring lost volume to the face. In addition, Sculptra is able to revitalize collagen production at the implant site, treating the underlying causes of facial aging. This is a mechanism that is not present in hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers. All in all, Sculptra aesthetic is a less invasive alternative to plastic surgery that can give your patients fuller, smoother, more sculpted skin.

How does this product work?

Sculptra, formerly known as NewFill®, is an injectable dermal filler made from microparticle beads of poly-L-lactic acid. Sculptra adds volume, and over time as Sculptra breaks down it is replaced by collagen, adding structure to your patient's skin. This keeps your patient's skin firmer, tighter and more elastic for a smooth and full look.

What are the ingredients?

Poly-L-lactic acid (150mg) Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (90mg) Non-pyrogenic mannitol (127.5mg).

Use Instructions

How to inject/administer this product

The depth of injection and quantity of Sculptra used depend on the area to be treated and the result expected. In general, Sculptra is injected into the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer with a 26G needle. A more detailed instruction on how to reconstitute the product is included in the package insert. Sculptra should only be used by health-care providers with expertise in the correction of volume defects after fully familiarizing themselves with the product, the product education materials and its complete instruction leaflet.

When should I use this product?

You can use Sculptra to correct deep wrinkles in aging patients, smooth out severe lines such as nasolabial folds, which are the lines between your patient's nose and their mouth, and sculpt facial features into an ideal shape.

What areas can I treat with this product?

Use Sculptra to treat the middle (e.g. temples) to lower face (e.g. mandibular line) and chin areas.

How long do results last?

Sculptra is the longest-lasting dermal filler on the market. Most patients who have 3 initial Sculptra cosmetic treatments about 3 weeks apart will continue to enjoy the results of their Sculptra aesthetic treatments for up to 2 years or even longer. This means your patients may not come in for their next Sculptra aesthetic treatment for 2 years, and they will be pleased with the results as they maintain their smooth, full, younger-looking skin for longer.
